Maintenance Mechanic

The Housing Authority of the City of Rocky Mount (RMHA) is seeking a candidate for the position of Maintenance Mechanic. This position will work essentially with our Preventive Maintenance Team and supports all communities as needed. RMHA has 756 conventional units and 320 Section 8 Rental Assistance.

Description of Work: The Maintenance Mechanic must have thorough knowledge and proven work experience in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, appliance repair, and electrical maintenance of apartments is required. Responsible for skilled maintenance of buildings, facilities, grounds, and light equipment. Performs carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and general repairs in response to service requests and results of inspections of units in accordance with Uniform Physical Conditions Standards (UPCS) or other HUD-required standards. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to diagnosing problems, making general repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities, and maintaining furniture and equipment in the fields of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and related trades. The Maintenance Mechanic will make repairs and maintain plumbing systems by performing general work, including rough piping for domestic water and sanitary sewer and repair/replacement/installation of plumbing fixtures. The Maintenance Mechanic will make repairs and adjustments to various appliances and equipment and replaces appliances and equipment when necessary. The successful candidate must be willing to work an on-call schedule periodically to respond to emergency situations.

Education and Experience Education and Experience: High School graduate (or GED) or possess a vocational technician certification beyond high school, with three (3) years experience or training in building construction or maintenance or in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.

The following Certifications must be obtained within one (1) year of employment or other allowable period of hire as authorized by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or his/her designee.
